Try the prologue now — progress carries over to the full game
Capcom has dropped the prologue demo of Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2, giving players a hands-on taste of the opening hours and the chance to transfer that save into the full release on December 4. It’s a neat way to test the game on the new hardware before committing to the full hunt.
Early impressions and gameplay clips are already circulating, and they’re mostly positive. Folks are using the demo to check loading, controls, and general feel — basically making sure their Switch 2 can handle one of Capcom’s more demanding RE Engine titles.
Performance-first port: 30fps stable, visual trade-offs, and why it matters
Wilds originally struggled at launch on consoles and PC back in February 2025, and Capcom has spent months tuning performance. For the Switch 2 version the studio appears to have rebuilt big chunks of the game, and the result seems focused on a rock-solid 30 fps target rather than eye-popping fidelity.
That means sacrifices: lower resolution and softer textures show up compared to PS5 and PC, but many reviewers say the combat still feels uncompromised. In handheld mode those graphical hits are even less obvious, so portable play does a lot of the heavy lifting for hiding the downgrade.
There’s still more to see — bigger fights, diverse locales, and stressful scenarios could expose weaknesses — but for now the Switch 2 prologue reads as a pleasant surprise after last year’s rocky performance on stronger machines.
On top of this, Capcom is planning the “Ascendance” expansion for next year, promising new areas and monsters to chase. If you’ve been waiting to see whether Wilds can run on Nintendo’s next system, the demo is the fastest way to find out.
Bottom line: try the prologue if you own a Switch 2. It won’t match the visual polish of higher-end versions, but it seems to preserve the core hunting loop — and that’s what matters to most players.
