Release window, platforms, and what that actually means
Square Enix used Disney’s D23 stage to reveal a trailer and pin a release window on Kingdom Hearts 4: late 2027. That’s the official timeframe, but it’s pretty broad — think Q4 vibes when the heavy hitters usually drop.
The game will hit PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. So whatever machine you’re hoarding for screenshots, you’re covered — just don’t expect a day-one date yet.
Bottom line: it’s coming, but don’t burn your vacation days until we get a proper launch date. The window gives devs breathing room to polish, and gives fans time to freak out in proper slow-burn fashion.
Coco, the gameplay tease, and the D23 deep dive
The trailer’s biggest surprise? Kingdom Hearts 4 will include the Land of the Dead from Pixar’s Coco. We got short gameplay flashes, gorgeous visuals, and a sight gag that has already broken the internet: Sora rocking catrín face paint.
Gameplay clips were brief but promising — enough to show atmosphere and art direction without revealing full systems. Expect more concrete combat and world mechanics info at the dedicated Kingdom Hearts panel at D23, which will feature voice actors Haley Joel Osment and David Gallagher alongside Square Enix and Disney & Pixar Games reps.
Fans are already making memes and theories, and while speculation is fun, remember the official details will come from the panel and future updates. For now, enjoy the hype: big visuals, a tasty new world, and a release window that gives developers time to make this one sing.
