Isaac shows up again — and yes, he’s the PS2 guy
Konami has confirmed that one of the shadowy bosses teased in the Belmont’s Curse trailer is Isaac, the demon-forging antagonist first introduced in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness on PS2. If that name made you do a double-take, you’re not alone — Curse of Darkness has lived in a weird little cult corner of the series’ history: a 3D experiment that flopped in reviews but stuck with fans thanks to its soundtrack, combat, and the oddly addictive demon-forging system.
Isaac’s return is official — he showed up on the franchise’s account — and this isn’t the Netflix-verse version folks remember from the animated show. This is the game-era forgemaster who has ties to Trevor Belmont and a messy past involving Dracula’s resurrection. Whether he’s back as a full-blown boss, a puppet, or something much more twisted, Konami hasn’t spilled all the details yet.
What this means for the game (and for fans)
Belmont’s Curse lands October 15 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch release to follow at an unspecified date. The new title is a 2D Metroidvania set in Paris in 1499 — timeline-wise it’s 20 years after Curse of Darkness and 23 years after Dracula’s Curse — so bringing Isaac in feels like a deliberate nod to that part of the lore.
From a gameplay perspective, Isaac’s presence could mean more demon-related mechanics, heavier story ties to Trevor and Hector, and possibly callbacks to Curse of Darkness’ crafting systems. That’s speculation for now, but fans who loved the PS2 entry’s combat and forging will be watching closely.
Community reaction has been mostly hype and nostalgia: players who defended Curse of Darkness as underrated are excited to see a forgotten face get another shot at the spotlight. If Konami leans into the character’s game roots instead of the show’s retelling, Belmont’s Curse could score big with longtime fans and curious newcomers alike.
