What you can build — yes, even a pixel sandcrawler
Epic just handed creators a golden ticket: licensed Star Wars assets and tools inside Fortnite Creative and UEFN. That means themed templates, characters, vehicles, weapons and map pieces inspired by the Disney/Lucasfilm universe are now available for builders to mash into whatever chaotic galaxy they want.
Four starter islands drop you straight into familiar locales — a cold Hoth wasteland, windblown Tatooine dunes, lava-churned Nevarro and a space-set playground perfect for dogfights. You’ll also get ship and vehicle props to set the scene, plus bits from previous Battle Royale seasons to steal ideas (erm, borrow) from.
There’s Niagara visual effects support too, so you can craft dramatic aerial fights in asteroid fields or a flashy hyperspace jump that actually feels like hyperspace. In short: if you’ve ever wanted to build your own Star Wars skirmish, it’s suddenly way less hypothetical.
How to publish, get seen, and why this matters
Creators can start publishing Star Wars islands from May 1, when the Creator Portal adds a dedicated Star Wars page. Epic says these builds will be eligible for extra Discover placement — including possible spots in Epic’s Picks — so it’s worth submitting your best work.
Epic is also rolling out tutorials and documentation for the new templates, so you won’t be left fumbling with props. Expect a mix of community creativity: mini campaigns, dogfight arenas, roleplay hubs, and meme-filled tributes are all on the table.
Why gamers should care: this expands Fortnite’s sandbox in a big, licensed way. It’s not just aesthetic skins — these tools change what creators can make and how players experience Star Wars content without leaving Fortnite. More licensed toolkits like this mean fresh, player-driven experiences and a lot more bizarre mashups to explore.
