How big is the remake (bring snacks for your SSD)
Short answer: it’s hefty. The Xbox Store lists Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced at about 65.79 GB on Xbox Series, and Steam recommends roughly 65 GB for PC installs. PS5 is expected to be in the same ballpark — Sony builds sometimes squeeze a bit less space out of files, but don’t count on a miracle.
For perspective, the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag sits at around 30 GB on PC. So yeah — this new Resynced version is roughly double the size of the classic. Expect sharper textures, bigger audio files, rebuilt cinematics and other modern bells and whistles to be the usual suspects chewing up the extra gigabytes.
Why this matters (and what we noticed)
Release date reminder: the remake lands on July 9 for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. It’s Ubisoft’s remake of the pirate-era favorite, not just a remaster — which helps explain the bigger install: full reworks and added material tend to bulk things up.
From hands-on previews, the upgrade is obvious — visuals and sound have been modernized, cutscenes feel more cinematic, and performances come through with more expression. The game also keeps the original Spanish voice track and even recorded fresh lines for the new build, so fans of the original will hear familiar voices with added polish.
It’s not flawless: early testers spotted occasional frame dips and a few rough spots, so expect a couple of technical hiccups at launch. But those don’t erase the fact that the remake expands and enhances the original in ways that matter to players — bigger worlds, updated audio, and more detailed ship combat all affect the way you play and feel the game.
For the community, the size jump is a talking point. Some players are grumpy about storage budgets and the need to juggle installs on limited SSDs; others are happy to trade space for a more modern, immersive experience. If your console or PC is tight on room, you’ll want to free up an extra 60–70 GB ahead of July 9.
Bottom line: if you loved Edward Kenway’s pirate romp and you’ve got the storage to spare, Resynced promises a beefed-up version of the original — with a few launch bumps to watch for. If you’re short on SSD space, start deleting old installs now.
