Huge launch numbers (and yes, that many players)
Windrose hit Early Access on PC and immediately made a splash — SteamDB logged a peak of 69,544 concurrent players, and at one check there were still more than 40,000 folks sailing around. For an indie Early Access title that’s not just good, it’s bonkers.
The game is on sale at €26.99 through April 21, and it clearly landed on a lot of radars: pre-launch it racked up roughly 1.5 million wishlists, so the packed servers weren’t exactly a surprise — more like confirmation that people were genuinely hyped.
What you actually do in Windrose
Think pirate sandbox, but with survival vibes. You’ll sail between islands, build bases, scavenge and craft, tussle in naval combat, and even hop aboard enemy ships for melee chaos. It blends exploration on both land and sea with co-op play and progression systems, so there’s always a carrot to chase.
The Early Access build ships a decent chunk of content: three biomes, about 30 procedurally generated islands, 90+ hand-crafted points of interest, three different ships you can pilot, factions, missions, character progression, and a full building system. In short: it’s got enough toys to test the core loop and keep groups of friends busy.
Why gamers should care
Windrose’s early numbers matter because they show momentum — player count and wishlists mean faster feedback, more community activity, and better chances for the devs to tune balance and add features. With a lively playerbase, bugs get found faster and co-op adventures form quicker, which is gold for an Early Access survival title.
Bottom line: if you like piratey exploration, base-building, and ship-to-ship skirmishes, Windrose’s strong debut suggests it’s worth at least a look while the game is in Early Access — just expect it to keep evolving as the community weighs in.
