Empulse: Splitgate Devs Are Building a Parkour Shooter with Grappling Hooks and Mechs

What Empulse actually is

1047 Games — the team behind Splitgate — just revealed Empulse, a new fast-movement shooter headed to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam). It’s slated to enter Early Access sometime in 2026, though the studio hasn’t given a concrete date yet.

Think tight 6v6 matches in a ruined metropolis called Freehold, where vertical play and mobility aren’t optional — they’re the whole point. Players will be sprinting up walls, zipping around with a grappling hook, launching off special Holojump platforms and using something called P.A.I.N.T. bombs to change how surfaces behave mid-fight. In short: speed, flow and creative routing appear baked into the experience.

Why it matters (and what’s still fuzzy)

One of the headline hooks is mechs. During matches you can nab hulking, player-piloted machines with beefier health and heavy weapons that can swing momentum if your squad secures one. They sound powerful but not untouchable — teams can still coordinate to take them down and flip a match.

Fans have already started calling Empulse a spiritual follow-up to Titanfall and pointing out similarities to the mobility from games like Call of Duty: Black Ops III. That chatter came before the official reveal, so treat those comparisons as community impressions rather than studio-confirmed intent.

There are a few big blanks 1047 hasn’t filled in yet: we don’t know whether Empulse will be free-to-play, which playlists or modes will appear in Early Access, or how long the Early Access period will last. Those details will matter a lot for how the game launches and how the community grows around it.

Bottom line: if you miss high-octane shooters where movement is a weapon and giant mechs show up to mess with your flow, Empulse is one to watch. Expect more specifics as 1047 teases release dates, monetization and modes closer to the Early Access window.
