The Paris tease
At Japan Expo in Paris, CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama was asked point-blank whether a Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot sequel is coming. He didn’t confirm anything — nor flat-out deny it — and instead said the studio is hard at work on games tied to its anime licenses. A popular Dragon Ball account later shared a paraphrase of his remarks, and that half-answer was enough to spark a wave of speculation.
Why the fuss? Kakarot dropped roughly six years ago and left a solid mark as a story-driven, action-RPG take on the Z saga. Fans loved the mix of narrative set pieces, open areas to explore, and punchy combat, so even the faintest hint of a follow-up gets people excited fast.
Why it matters to players
A true Kakarot sequel could shape the future of Dragon Ball titles: think deeper RPG systems, expanded arcs from the anime, tighter combat, and more meaningful side content. That’s a different appetite from players who prefer pure fighters, and it’s what made the original stand out — so a sequel could push that approach further.
Also worth noting: a separate Dragon Ball game is already confirmed — Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is slated for 2027, promising an original story with both new faces and series legends. So even if Kakarot 2 isn’t happening tomorrow, there are still big Dragon Ball releases on the horizon.
For now, treat talk of a sequel as unconfirmed. Matsuyama’s response was evasive rather than revealing, and the community is filling in the gaps with hopeful chatter. Keep an eye on official channels for actual announcements — and maybe keep a senzu bean handy while you wait.
