Stealth, gadgets, and doing it your way
IO Interactive is handing James Bond a toolkit that rewards imagination. The new footage shows you can ghost through levels, pick locks with gadgets, or just cause a glorious ruckus — whatever floats your villain-defeating boat.
Expect classic infiltration bits: tailing targets, tapping into conversations, and spotting sneaky routes. A smart HUD cue called Q-lenses points out what matters, while toys like a laser utility, dart phone, explosive blinding mines, and smoke canisters let you craft distractions or clear a path without brute force.
There’s also a TacSim mode — basically a training ground that rewards you for mastering missions. It dishes out extra challenges, collectibles, and XP so you can unlock new skins and gadgets, giving the game more longevity beyond the main story.
And don’t worry, it’s not all crouch-and-whisper. Combat plays a big part too, borrowing some punchy movement and encounter ideas from action-adventure staples, so close-quarters firefights are on the menu when stealth fails (or when you intentionally wreck the place).
Launch info, extras, and why Bond’s return matters
After a few quiet years without a Bond game, IO Interactive is finally bringing 007 back. First Light lands on May 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release penciled in for this summer.
The studio has been drip-feeding previews — theme music, dev diaries, and now the Rules of Spycraft trailer — which has the community buzzing. Fans seem pumped that IO’s stealth pedigree is front-and-center, and previews so far suggest the studio is aiming for player choice rather than a single rigid playstyle.
There’s even a limited-edition DualSense themed to the game, for those who collect shiny peripherals. Bottom line: if you like sandboxy stealth with a side of cinematic action and unlockable toys, 007 First Light looks like a proper Bond comeback worth keeping an eye on.
